The goal of this stage is to thoroughly remove all contaminants attached to the paint surface, laying the foundation for subsequent steps.
Wheel and Gap Cleaning: Use a neutral car shampoo to clean the wheels, and use a detailing brush to clean mud and debris from door handles, emblem crevices, and window seals.
Two-Bucket Wash: Employ thetwo-bucket method(one for soapy water, one for clean rinse water) to prevent grit from being carried back onto the paint surface by the wash mitt, which causes scratches.
Iron Fallout Tar Removal: Spray Iron Remover onto the paint surface (it will react by turning purple/red, dissolving embedded iron particles). Then, spray Tar Remover to dissolve asphalt/tar spots. Rinse both off thoroughly with a high-pressure washer.
Clay Bar Treatment: Use a clay bar with a suitable lubricant, gliding it across the paint surface. This removes embedded industrial fallout and oxidized layers that washing alone cannot eliminate. The surface must feel as smooth as glass before proceeding to the next step.
This is the most critical step determining the final outcome of the coating. If scratches or holograms/swirl marks remain on the paint, applying the coating will simply seal these imperfections beneath the crystal layer.
Surface Refining/Finishing: Use a polisher/buffer fitted with a finishing pad and a finishing polish to perform a final polish. This step removes fine swirl marks (marring) from previous steps and restores the paint s original high-gloss, mirror-like finish.
Surface Preparation (Panel Wipe/Polish Removal): After polishing, oils and wax residues from the polish will remain. The entire vehicle s paint surface must be wiped down with a dedicated panel wipe or surface cleaner (IPA - Isopropyl Alcohol solution) . If this degreasing step is incomplete, the ceramic coating will not bond properly to the paint and may fail (e.g., peeling, premature wear) within days.
This is the stage where errors are most likely to occur, and timing is critical.
Waiting for Curing: Wait for the specified time (typically a few tens of seconds to a few minutes, depending on the product instructions and ambient temperature). When you lightly touch the treated area with your finger and feel slight resistance/slowing (dragging), and you see rainbow-like oil slick patterns/iridescence forming, it indicates the coating is beginning to cure/bond.
Final Buffing (Leveling): Immediately use a dedicated high-quality suede or microfiber cloth (short pile) . Gently buff the surface, first in horizontal passes, then in vertical passes, to remove the excess liquid and the rainbow patterns/iridescence. Continue until the paint surface reveals a high-gloss, crystal-clear finish. If you buff too late, the hardened coating can get caught in the cloth and drag/mar the finish. If you buff too early, you will wipe off the coating before it bonds, preventing it from achieving its intended hardness.
